| Participants:
The workshop will be offered to 20 experienced teachers: 10
teachers from past EARTH workshops and 10 teachers from past
UNH Coastal Observing Center workshops. |
| Collaborative Partnerships:
The workshop will be held in collaboration with George Matsumoto
of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) in California.
Dr. Matsumoto is a research scientist and the Education Director
of their program. He runs a program called EARTH (Education
and Research: Testing Hypotheses) http://www.mbari.org/earth/
which is a professional development program using real time
ocean observing data for teachers in the classroom. |
| This workshop also continues to
collaborate with the Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System (GoMOOS)
www.gomoos.org. The workshop will feature and focus
on specific aspects that directly connect to the NSF funded
COSEE-Ocean Systems (Centers for Ocean Science Education Excellence)
program of which UNH is a partner. |

order to participate: |

All participants must test one of the lesson
plans posted on the EARTH MBARI website and complete the rubric
which is online at www.mbari.org/earth. |

Also all teachers must complete and submit an application
first to let us know if you are interested in participating. |

| Teacher Support: Teachers will receive
the following: |

An honorarium of $100/day for classroom
teachers. |
| • |
Housing in UNH dorms for non-local teachers. |
| • |
Support for travel expenses (needs and awards will
be reviewed during the application process and decisions
will be based on budget availability). |
| • |
Food for all meals unless other wise noted. |
