Using ICE

Click on the "Analyze Image" button in the "Image Viewer" window. You now will be entering the second component of ICEBOX- the Image Composite Editor (ICE). After a few minutes, you should see the following:

The three images you selected appear at the top and as you click on each of them, they will appear in the larger viewer window located below them. The analysis tools for ICE are to the right side of the viewer window and the color table options beneath the viewer window.

Four color tables called ‘palettes’ can be selected from the drop-down menu. The one that appears when you first enter ICE is the ‘grayscale’ palette. There is a standard ‘rainbow’ palette, and two palettes designed specifically for enhancing ocean satellite data. You can experiment with any of the palettes. In each case, black areas over the ocean are missing data, usually due to persistent cloud cover throughout the 8-day averaging period. A color scale is located to the left of the large image. Slide the bar up and down the scale and you will see the actual data value (chlorophyll or SST) associated with each color.

Let's review the different tools for ICE.
